20th Century Fox has reshuffled some of their upcoming movies, and it’s good news for X-Men fans as X-Men: Days of Future Past will be released 2 months earlier than previously planned. Fox has switched the release dates of X-Men and Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, so we’ll now see the mutants May 23, 2014 and the apes July 18, 2014.
The studio has also set a July 2015 release date for Independence Day 2, a sequel to the 1996 hit starring Will Smith. Director Roland Emmerich will be back, but Smith is unlikely to return unless some serious deal making takes place. Emmerich said earlier this year that the story will focus on a new set of heroes, and suggested it’ll be the stepson of Will Smith’s Independence Day character Steven Hiller taking the lead.
Independence Day 3 is also planned, but that film may not move forward until Independence Day 2 opens.
