This page is a guide to some of the new movies being released in 2014. New movies 2014 will include new entries from X-Men, Spider-Man, The Hobbit, Fast and Furious, and Captain America, along with some original sci-fi films and big animated movies aimed at bringing in the families. While we’re still happily enjoying 2013, 2014 will probably be one of the biggest years for movies we’ve seen in a long time.

New Movies 2014: A guide to the biggest releases

Kinnaman Robocop RoboCop is a reboot of the property which was made popular back in the 1980s thanks to the release of Paul Verhoeven's movie. This new version stars Joel Kinnaman as the Detroit police office who undergoes a drastic transformation to become RoboCop. Gary Oldman and Samuel L. Jackson also star.
300-rise-of-an-empire-top 300: Rise of An Empire is the follow-up to 2007's 300. The film takes place primarily at sea and follows Themistokles as he battles against the massive invading Persian forces led by Xerxes and Artemisia.
crowe_noah Noah is a biblical epic from Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky. Russell Crowe stars as the title character who must protect his family from an apocalyptic rainfall. Emma Watson also stars alongside Logan Lerman and Jennifer Connelly.
chris_evans_as_captain_america The Marvel cinematic universe continues with Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers and must battle against the Winter Solider in the present day. S.H.I.E.L.D agents Black Widow/Falcon/Nick Fury are also involved in the fight
johnny-depp Christopher Nolan's cinematographer Wally Pfister makes his directorial debut with the sci-fi action movie Transcendence. The film is led by Johnny Depp who plays a scientist whose brain is downloaded into a supercomputer. This makes him and his wife targets by a terrorist group.
The_Amazing_Spider-Man_2_costume-eyes The rebooted Spider-Man saga continues with The Amazing Spider-Man 2. This time Peter Parker/Spider-Man has to take on two villains in the form of Electro (Jamie Foxx) and Rhino (Paul Giamatti). Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone return for the sequel along with director Marc Webb
gozilla-reboot The giant monster is back to wreak havoc and destruction in Godzilla. Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars alongside Bryan Cranston and Elizabeth Olsen and the movie will apparently feature multiple monster battling it out.
original-xmen X-Men: Days of Future Past reunites characters from the original trilogy with those recently seen in X-Men: First Class. It'll be the biggest X-Men movie to date and we'll see the X-Men fighting against giant robots in the future. Expect some time-travel.
the-good-dinosaur-pixar Pixar have decided to make a dinosaur movie and it'll be known as The Good Dinosaur. The film takes place in a world where the cataclysmic asteroid that forever changed life on Earth actually missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles From producer Michael Bay and Wrath of the Titans director Jonathan Liebesman comes Ninja Turtles. The plot will apparently see the turtles defending the Earth from aliens who created them. Megan Fox and Whoopi Goldberg will also be there.
how-to-train-your-dragon-2 How to Train Your Dragon 2 takes place five years after the first film and revolves around the discovery of a new dragon species found in a hidden ice cave. Jay Baruchel returns to voice the young dragon trainer alongside Gerard Butler and Kristen Wiig.
transformers-4 Transformers 4 will be directed by trilogy director Michael Bay however he'll be changing a few things (such as the robot design to increase toy sales). The story will take place four years after the events of the last film and will feature a whole new cast of characters lead by Mark Wahlberg.
angelina-jolie-as-maleficent-picture Disney is producing a movie based on the Sleeping Beauty villain Maleficent. Angelina Jolie leads the film and the story will be told from the perspective of her character. Princess Aurora will be played by Elle Fanning.
fast-furious-7-movie Yes there will be a Fast and the Furious 7. Justin Lin has decided not to direct the next one however Saw director James Wan will take over. Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will be back along with the rest of the crew. This time expect the car chases and heists to take place in the Middle East and Tokyo.
planet-of-the-apes-2011 The apes have taken over and are riding horses in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. A small band of humans have survived a virus that is wiping out humanity but can they co-exist with the intelligent apes? Nope. Expect man vs. ape wars.
Hercules-The-Thracian-Wars After successfully rejuvenating other franchises Dwayne Johnson wants to start his own with Hercules: The Thracian Wars. The 2014 film is directed by Brett Ratner (X-Men 3) and follows the son of Zeus as he turns his back on the Gods and is driven only by combat. That is until the King of Thrace plans to build the greatest army of all time.
mila-kunis-eyes The directors of The Matrix and Cloud Atlas are back with another sci-fi movie. Jupiter Ascending is set in the distant future and stars Mila Kunis as a Russian immigrant who learns she is connected to the Queen of the Universe. Problem is The Queen wants her dead and sends a half wolf/human Channing Tatum to do it. Sean Bean also stars.
Guardians_of_the_galaxy_2014 The Marvel Cinematic Universe goes into space with Guardians of the Galaxy. The team consists of superhuman and extra-terrestrial adventurers (including a talking raccoon) who dedicate themselves to protecting the Milky Way Galaxy from any force that threatens it.
The-Expendables-3 The Expendables 3 will feature just about everyone from the previous films but with some new additions. Jackie Chan. Wesley Snipes. Nicolas Cage. Milla Jovovich. Maybe Mel Gibson as the villain.
josh-brolin-sin-city It took a good seven or eight years but the Sin City sequel Sin City: A Dame to Kill For is finally within reach. Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller have both returned to direct and the ensemble cast is even better than the first film. New members include Eva Green and Josh Brolin along with Jamie Chung and Joseph Gordon-Levitt
christopher-nolan-director Christopher Nolan is making a sci-fi film. I repeat – Christopher Nolan is making a sci-fi film. It's called Interstellar and will revolve around gravity fields and wormholes. Anne Hathaway and Jessica Chastain star alongside Matthew McConaughey and Nolan regular Michael Caine
catching-fire-hunger-games The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 will be the penultimate movie in the highly successful franchise. The 2014 movie follows Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) who reluctantly becomes the symbol of a mass rebellion against the autocratic Capitol.
Cate-Blanchett-and-Ian-McKellen-in-The-Hobbit-An-Unexpected-Journey We say goodbye to Middle Earth for the final time (probably) with The Hobbit: There and Back Again. The Battle of the Five Armies will form the backbone of the film with the Men of Dale and Elves fighting alongside Dwarves and Eagles against the Goblins/Wargs.
minions-movie The minions in Despicable Me have proved so popular that they've been given their own film by Universal. The spin-off will feature the voices of Sandra Bullock and Jon Hamm and Minions will be a prequel of sorts with the yellow fellows seeking out super-villains to work for in the 1960s.
