With MGM’s newfound cash they have been giving the green light to all kinds of projects, and according to The Hollywood Reporter a Hot Tub Time Machine sequel may be next. MGM is reportedly in “exploratory talks” with Rob Corddry, Clark Duke and Craig Robinson, however the last films lead John Cusack has apparently not been contacted.
Hot Tub Time Machine was a moderate success at the box office, but really hit it’s form once it was released for the home entertainment market, so whether the sequel actually ends up happening is not a certainty either way. The movie is as stupid and self-aware as one might expect, however it is filled with plenty of great time travel references including having Crispin Glover, A.K.A. Marty McFly, as an important side character.
Corddry and the first film’s director, Steve Pink, could end up working on the script together. If the sequel gets the go ahead it will get fast tracked, set for a release date of February 14th 2014.
