According to T3, Judgment day is/was July 24, 2004. So unless they view T3 as not cannon (which is odd because Cameron gave T3 his blessing, and was happy with it), they are really messing with continuity. I'm not saying going back in time to 2011 would be bad, but make it count, and not a giant hole in the movie's continuity. That all being said, I would simply love to see a T-800 kill John Connor in the 6th movie.
