If you’re a fan of Logan (and really who isn’t) this May you’ll get a chance to experience the movie again in a pretty different way, in black and white.
I know what some of you might think, no it’s not some pretentious bull. Making a good black and white movie takes some serious work, it’s not enough to just remove the colors. To quote director James Mangold’s tweet: “To make a great B&W version of a film, the whole thing’s gotta be regraded & timed shot by shot.”. Done well it really is a very different experience. Shots change and things that maybe didn’t jump the first time around, details you didn’t notice, might now. And then there’s also the added dramatic effect, which would help complement what’s already there in Logan. Obviously it’s not for everyone and it won’t work as well for most movies, but in this case it’s another way to experience probably the best movie of 2017 (so far) one last time on the big screen.
When? May 16th, unfortunately it’s only in select theaters in the US. The good news is that black and white version of Logan will also be included on the film’s Blu-Ray and DVD release on May 23rd. Not exactly sure it’s included in every version (seriously doubt that).
Released on March 3rd, the R-rated Logan has been a big hit for Fox, bringing in more than $600 million worldwide, making it the 3rd highest grossing X-Men movie to date.
