Matt Damon to open a zoo in England

bourne4According to The Hollywood Reporter Matt Damon is in talks to star in We Bought a Zoo for 20th Century Fox. It’s not exactly Bourne 4 but i’m sure it will be equally thrilling. Maybe.

The film will be directed by Cameron Crowe (Vanilla Sky, Jerry Maguire) and follows the story of Benjamin Mee (Damon) who uses his life savings to buy a run down zoo in the English countryside.

Mee, along with his children, has to balance caring for his wife who is dying of brain cancer, dealing with escaped tigers, raising endangered animals, and readying the zoo for a reopening. It’s a bit different from what we are used to seeing Damon take on, but i’m sure there are a few people who would be interested in seeing the actor in a uplifting tear-jerker along with 200 exotic animals facing destruction.

The script by Aline Brosh McKenna is based on the memoirs of Benjamin Mee, and Fox are aiming to get the film ready for a December 2011 release. Does a planned winter release suggest that it could be Oscar bait?
