According to Chud, Marvel has decided that after the big budget Avengers project is finished, they are going begin working more on smaller projects with lesser known comic book heroes. They intend for these minor projects to have budgets ranging from $20 to 40 million. Which may sound like a lot to us, but compared to the $100 million+ they’ve been spending on the larger scale projects, it’s hardly seems worth batting an eye at.
Recently, they have begun offering free pick of their lesser known heroes to any interested filmmakers. Heroes like Dr. Strange, Ka-Zar, Luke Cage, Dazzler and Power Pack (and many more) are practically being given away to anyone who thinks they can stay within budget.
By doing this, Marvel hopes to expand their film universe without necessarily spending an arm and a leg on each production. It also allows for more exposure of lesser known heroes that would never have found enough interest to warrant a big budget. And with the stakes not being as high, there is more room for artistic freedom without necessarily needing to appeal to the mass public.
So for all you diehard Dr. Strange fans, you may get a chance to see him on the big screen afterall. And for one better, it might end up be directed at you, the fan, rather then all those average people who have no idea who he is or what he does. So rejoice in your geekiness, and may it finally be as accurate to the comics as you’ve always hoped.
