Marvel trying to get Mickey Rourke with a mere $250,000

mickey-rourkeIn the real world $250,000 is a huge amount of money, however in the Hollywood world it is mere change and is not worth pretending to be Russian for. According to Variety, Marvel’s opening offer to Mickey Rourke for Iron Man 2 was $250,000.

Then there is comeback kid Mickey Rourke, who is poised to follow his Golden Globe-winning performance in “The Wrestler” with an offer to play the main villain in “Iron Man 2″ — but at a lowball opening offer of $250,000 from Marvel; Marvel’s tactics have already prompted Samuel L. Jackson to swear off playing Nick Fury because of a similarly low offer.

I don’t know why Marvel are being so damn cheap (if you can call 250k cheap). Iron Man made $580 million worldwide last year with a budget of $140 million. Iron Man 2 will likely top that so there is no need to be losing actors such as Samuel L Jackson over money.

But then again I don’t do the figures at Marvel so I don’t know sh*t.

  • maybe because he did The Wrestler for fee, they think this offer wouldnt be that bad to him.. But still, this does seem a bit low..

well also how big would his part be?
i mean..he should be grateful, we all know how big Iron Man was and how big the sequel will be..i mean Robert Downey wasn't too grand before Iron Man, a lot of people wouldn't know of him or talk of him because of his past, Iron Man helped movie him into an icon. Rourke should take it, it is low for the work but i mean if he does good he can get back in the movie league & possibly press other people who look to hire him for more $$. it all has pay offs, i'd take it XD

OK, first of all, I mean don't get me wrong Jackson is a great actor, but isn't Nick Fury supposed to be played by like i don't... Kurt Russel or someone like that. Wouldn't that be like making Kingpin a black guy? Oh wait they did that too. Whose Rourke suppose to be playing anyway, the Black Panther? And apparently Stan Lee is cheap bastard of sorts 'cause a quarter mil is i kind of just a slap in the face. I can't vouch for the Wrestler but Rourke was great as Marv.

Samuel L.'s Nick Fury is based on the Ultimate Nick Fury, not the main stream Marvel version of the character. Different continuity.
    /end geekiness

Classic Nick Fury would be played by Kurt Russel. In 2000, Marvel launched their Ultimate universe. Ultimate Nick Fury is a dead ringer for Samuel Jackson.
  • Iron Man made more than enough money to pay Rourke more. He's not A list again, but he could maybe get a B level salary. And just pay Sam Jackson already! I think they'd have a hard time selling a change in Fury, unless they found someone who looks like Jackson.

I can't imagine they would want to try to change back to the classic Nick Fury. What happened? Did he dye his skin?
    It would be ridiculous

Mickey Rourke made nearly $2.5 million in 1991 for Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man. $250K in 2009 is really low. But hopefully, he can get a percentage of gross sales on the back end. I know he hasn't made a lot of money in the past few years, but I think $250K is disrespectful especially if he wins an Oscar.
