Mark Wahlberg is the Lone Survivor in the first trailer for the true war story

LONE-SURVIVOR-TRAILERUniversal is capitalizing on Mark Wahlberg’s momentum from this week’s 2 Guns by releasing the first trailer for Lone Survivor. The true story—written and directed by Peter Berg (The Kingdom, Friday Night Lights)—focuses on “Operation Red Wings”, a covert mission that resulted in the ambush of four Navy SEALS in 2005 Afghanistan.

The film costars Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, and Ben Foster as the other three SEALS caught behind enemy lines. Eric Bana also joins the cast as Lieutenant Commander Erik Kristensen, who lead the search and rescue mission for the ambushed soldiers. The screenplay was adapted from the New York Times best seller, Lone Survivor: The Eyewitness Account of Operation Redwing and The Lost Heroes of Seal Team 10 by Marcus Luttrell, the only man to survive the attack, played in this film by Wahlberg.

This is one of many true Navy SEAL stories being adapted for the big screen, including last year’s Zero Dark Thirty, this year’s Captain Phillips and Bradley Cooper’s upcoming American Sniper.

Lone Survivor will have a limited release December 27th and expand nation-wide on January 10th. Wahlberg can be seen on the big screen this weekend with Denzel Washington in 2 Guns.
