With filming on The Hunger Games officially wrapped the cast have just over 6 months until the promotion frenzy begins. Liam Hemsworth (brother of Thor) won’t be waiting around though, as according to Variety he’s joined the cast of The Expendables 2.
No word on his role, but given his age he could be playing someone’s son. Hemsworth was originally going to be in the first film but his character was cut after re-writes, so it looks like Sylvester Stallone has made an effort to include him this time round.
Aside from Stallone, original cast members Jason Statham, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li and Terry Crews are expected to return. Jean-Claude Van Damme confirmed he’ll be part of the film after declining a role in the first film, and there’s talk of Chuck Norris also joining the ranks. Earlier this month it was confirmed that Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis, who appeared briefly in the first film, have signed deals to take on expanded roles in the sequel.
Filming will begin in October under the direction of Simon West (The Mechanic, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider) and Lionsgate are aiming for an August 2012 release.
