total recall remake Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman is in final negotiations to direct a Total Recall remake for Columbia Pictures according to Variety.

The original film directed by Paul Verhoeven in 1990 starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sharon Stone and followed an apparently unsophisticated construction worker, Douglas Quaid (Schwarzenegger), who turns out to be a freedom fighter from Mars who has been relocated to Earth, and his attempts to restore order, and reverse the corrupt influence of commercial powers.

Kurt Wimmer, who recently wrote the script for Salt, is writing the screenplay which is being described as a “new, contemporized adaptation”. In the press release Wisemen commented:

“I’ve always been fascinated with Philip K. Dick’s short story, and I’m excited at that prospect of diving even deeper into the type of world it evokes and the questions it asks. I love that the most crucial mystery our character is trying to solve is the one of his own soul.”

Len Wiseman is also producing Underworld 4 and may return to direct Die Hard 5 if Bruce Willis gets his wish, so it could be a while before we see the Total Recall remake on the big screen.

Do you want a Total Recall remake?

Definitely not. The original was a great movie and a sci-fi classic. I for one don't want an updated version. Hollywood, stop making sequels and remakes and come up with some original ideas for once. All hail Christopher Nolan.

come on Len, r U actually confirming that your only “original” idea is to do a movie battle between werewolves and vamps? oh, maybe I would be as drained as u if I had a woman like yours to stare at all day….

jokes aside, please do not touch one of the Sci-fi classics, I know its not a Blade Runner, but still it has a cult following, there is very little room to remake this one the right way… and lets face it, Len U R NOT NOLAN

waste of time….I don't see much you can add to the original unless ur doing a radically different story with today's effects (the original FX was good for its day)

This is a horrible Idea , The original is one of my Favorite movies of all time. No One can Replace Arnie in that role and anything they do will just have fans rebelling and staying loyal to the original. Why dont they just re-release like an Anniversary addition of the original or something. God it makes me sick how hollywood wants to cash in again on older products for new generations. You Woudn't remake all the classics would you ? like Pulp Fiction, Star Wars or BraveHeart ? When will this stop ?
