Sam Raimi announced at ComicCon that he would no longer be directing the World of WarCraft movie, but Legendary is still moving forward with the Blizzard property and according to Variety they have hired Charles Leavitt to write the script.
Leavitt has previously written Blood Diamond, and his latest effort is the fantasy film The Seventh Son starring Jeff Bridges, Ben Barnes and Julianne Moore. Legendary will now be looking for a new director to take over, and hope to move the project forward over the upcoming months.
World of Warcraft is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game where players explore the landscape, battle monsters, and complete quests. The universe contains elements from fantasy, steampunk, and science fiction with dragons, elves, zombies and werewolves all in the mix. The game has developed a global following since its launch in 1994, and had 10.2 million subscribers as of December 2011.
