Lee Pace is once again being linked to the upcoming Marvel film, Guardians of the Galaxy. Last time around his was one of a few names that was being considered for the film’s leading hero, Star Lord, a role which went to rising star Chris Pratt of Moneyball and Parks and Recreation. Now it looks like Pace will instead play the films leading antagonist, who is still a mystery.
Pace plays Thranduil, Legolas’ father in The Hobbit trilogy, but his part in An Unexpected Journey was little more than a non-speaking cameo, as he won’t become a major character until The Desolation of Smaug which will be released this December. Pace is best known for playing the lead on the quirky TV show Pushing Daisies.
Guardians will be the last Marvel superhero film released before The Avengers 2, so we may see some set up for possible plotlines in The Avengers 2 during Guardians. So far all we definitively know about Guardians is; the line-up of heroes that will compose the team, that the movie will be set almost entirely in space, and a few of the cast. So far that cast comprises of Pratt as Star Lord, Zoe Saldana, who is no stranger to playing aliens, as Gamora, Dave Bautista as Drax the Destroyer, Michael Rooker as Yondu, and Ophelia Lovibond playing a supporting role.
The film begins production in June with a release date of August 1st 2014.
