Laurence Fishburne cast as Perry White in Man of Steel

According to Entertainment Weekly Laurence Fishburne, best known for his role as Morpheus in The Matrix trilogy, has been cast as Daily Planet editor-in-chief Perry White in Zack Snyder’s Man of Steel.

Perry White was previously played by Jackie Cooper in the 70s/80s, and Frank Langella took on the role in Superman Returns. The character is known for being a tough but fairminded boss, something Fishburne won’t have any problems pulling off.

The movie stars Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman, Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Kevin Costner and Diane Lane as Jonathan and Martha Kent. Russell Crowe will take on the role of Superman’s biological father Jor-El, with Julia Ormond playing Superman’s Kryptonian mother. Michael Shannon will play the villain, General Zod, and German actress Antje Traue has been cast as villainess Faora.

Man of Steel‘s release date was recently pushed back to June 14, 2013, however filming is currently under-way.

What you writing doesn’t make sense.

I don’t have problem with him playing the role. Keep your racist comment to yourselfs

It’s not a racist comment. Perry White is a white guy in all the comics. He is a white guy. Laurence Fishburne is a great actor, in fact one hell of an actor, but he’s not white, and Perry White is white. Would you cast Martin Luther King as a white, spanish, etc guy. No? Because he’s a black guy. But if they did cast MLK as a white guy would you be saying WTF? YES! And so would every other person in the world. Would it be racist then if everyone said MLK should be played by a black person? No, it’s common sense. MLK is black, needs to be played by a black actor. Make sense? They put Laurence Fishburne in as Perry White to cause a little stir for the movie. That makes sense. But the casting does not.

I’m black, and while I too believed Perry White should have remained white as he has been in all previous incarnations I have warmed up the idea. To have someone of a different race play MLK wouldn’t make since because he was an ACTUAL person. I think that alone dismisses your argument. Perry is fictional and therefore the character is open to interpretation. Also, keep in mind he is a secondary type of character. If there were a change to Bruce Wayne or Clark Kent then I’m sure more people might be inclined to agree with you.
