Earlier this month Kevin Costner was forced to drop out of Quentin Tarantino’s Django Unchained due to scheduling conflicts, leaving the director in search of a replacement. Well The Wrap now reports that Tarantino has called upon his Death Proof actor Kurt Russell to fill the spot, and he is currently in talks.
If Russell joins he’ll play the sadistic trainer Ace Woody, who forces male slaves to fight to entertain the white patrons of Candyland.
In the movie Django (Jamie Foxx) is a freed slave, who, under the tutelage of a German bounty hunter (Christoph Waltz) becomes a bad-ass bounty hunter himself, and after assisting Waltz in taking down some bad guys for profit, is helped by Waltz in tracking down his slave wife and liberating her from an evil plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). Samuel L. Jackson will play DiCario’s slave, Stephen, while Django’s wife Broomhilda has yet to be cast.
Filming will begin in November and The Weinstein Company has given Django Unchained a December 25, 2012 release date.
