Kellan Lutz, the third most popular guy from Twilight, has landed the role of Poseidon in War of the Gods. He will be joining Mickey Rourke, Henry Cavill and Freida Pinto in the Greek epic, which is due to start filming next month with Tarsem Singh (The Fall) at the helm.
We’ve seen Poseidon on-screen a lot recently. Kevin McKidd played the sea God in Percy Jackson & the Olympians last month and Danny Huston will be playing him in Clash of the Titans. Luckily for Hollywood the Ancient Greeks didn’t think to copyright their belief system, which is why we’re getting all these movies with the same characters/Gods. War of the Gods will be a little different, however. The director recently said the film is “a really hardcore action film done in Renaissance painting style”, which I find interesting.
Here’s the synopsis:
A purported bastard who retains an allegiance to his mother despite the fact that he longs to join the quest of a king who is battling demons in ancient Greece later embarks on a grail of discovery that has him finding he is the king’s son and also fated to become his country’s greatest hero as he leads the successful war against long-imprisoned Titans who are hoping to use the demons to restore their power.
No release date has been set (there’s no major studio behind it), although Universal will be releasing the film sometime in 2011.
