In an article about his autobiography it is confirmed that Rolling Stones guitarist Keith Richards will return for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, having made a cameo appearance as Captain Teague, the father of Captain Jack Sparrow, in At World’s End.
Depp, who played the lead role in the 1990 movie “Edward Scissorhands,” credits Richards for inspiring his character Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, and the two are currently shooting the series’ fourth installment, where Richards reprises his role as Sparrow’s father.
This is very cool news. No word on how large his role will be this time around, but it will probably be bigger than before. I doubt they would bring him back if he had less to do.
The fourth film will include “zombies, cutthroats, mermaids and… Penelope Cruz” as Jack Sparrow and Barbossa sail to find the Fountain of Youth together, only to find Blackbeard (Ian McShane) is after it too. Cruz will play Blackbeard’s daughter who is a woman from Sparrow’s past and he’s not sure if it’s love–or if she’s a ruthless con artist who’s just using him to find the Fountain of Youth.
On Stranger Tides will be released next May, and we will be getting our first look in December as a trailer will be attached to Tron Legacy.
