I simply can’t remember Bill And Ted’s Excellent Adventure clearly enough to make a judgement on whether it was a good film, as it’s been about 16 years since I saw it last. I have caught the sequel Bill and Teds Bogus Journey a few times, each time the squirm and cringe gets a little stronger at the sheer cheesiness of it all, culminating in the Grim Reaper’s short rap at the end which will always see me in a contorted ball on the floor peering through the cracks in my fingers.
Nevertheless Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter are still keen on re-teaming for the long mooted third installment, with Reeves himself always open to questions on the subject, some of which were again put to him by MTV whilst on the rounds promoting his upcoming movie Henry’s Crime.
He says of work on the script:
“The writers are six weeks away from a draft.”
…and offers some details of what it contains:
“When we last got together, part of it was that Bill and Ted were supposed to have written the song that saved the world, and it hasn’t happened,” he said. “So they’ve now become kind of possessed by trying to do that. Then there’s an element of time and they have to go back.”
He goes on to say that it all ties back directly into the end of Bogus Journey. Whether the movie ends up as just an exercise in nostalgia for fans of the now 20 year old originals or whether it will manage to find a new young audience is highly suspect, but it will be fun for a few of us finding out whether The Wyld Stallyns are still being excellent to each other in their late 40s.
