There had been some speculation recently that Universal had either cancelled or delayed Jurassic Park 4 due to issues with the script, however given the film was originally supposed to be released this time next year the studio could easily have been worried about a rushed production. Well today Universal confirmed Jurassic Park 4 won’t be released June 2014 as planned, but it will arrive at “a later date”.
Here’s the announcement from the studio:
“In coordination with filmmakers, Universal has decided to release Jurassic Park 4 at a later date giving the studio and filmmakers adequate time to bring audiences the best possible version of the fourth installment in Universal’s beloved franchise. We could not be more excited about the vision that Colin Trevorrow has created for this film, and we look forward to watching as he and the producers create another great chapter in this franchise’s storied history.”
Safety Not Guaranteed director Colin Treverrow was hired to direct in March to the surprise of many as he hasn’t directed a studio movie of this size before. He and his Safety Not Guaranteed writer Derek Connolly had been working on a new script, and just last week he was tweeting images from a location scout on the Hawaiian island of Kauai. In the first film it doubled as Isla Nublar, the island home to Jurassic Park.
