Not deterred by Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman, Relativity Media are moving forward with their version of Snow White with director Tarsem Singh. Hunstman already has Viggo Mortensen and Charlize Theron on-board which gives them a head start, but now Julia Roberts is apparently in talks to join The Brothers Grimm: Snow White.
We hear from insiders familiar with the situation that Julia Roberts is finally engaging on Tarsem Singh’s upcoming 3-D movie The Brothers Grimm: Snow White. With the film set up at Relativity Media, director Singh (The Cell, The Fall) has long wanted Roberts to play the Evil Queen (“Yes, the Queen! She’s wicked! She’s bad! She’s mighty mean!”), and now her reps have finally begun negotiations in earnest.
Singh’s Snow White movie begins with the evil stepmother killing Snow White’s father and destroying the kingdom. Snow White then bands together with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarves to reclaim what is rightfully hers.
It looks like we have a production race on our hands. Tarsem Singh was in a similar battle with Clash of the Titans in 2008 with his greek epic War of the Gods (now known as Immortals). Warner Bros. got the head start as Singh had funding problems, but we will be seeing his take on Ancient Greece in November.
Which project seems more interesting to you? Snow White running off with the Viggo Mortensen, or Julia Roberts being evil?
