Sin City director Robert Rodriguez has taken to Twitter and released early production images of Josh Brolin (True Grit, MIB 3) as Dwight in the highly anticipated sequel, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For. The two images detail a before-and-after look at the production process, which utilises green screen in order to capture the neo-noir style that is synonymous with the Sin City franchise.
Rodriguez tweeted that it “probably won’t be raining in (the) final movie” and Empire elaborated further:
Don’t expect this to be the exact final look for the film, though. While it is taken from actual footage, the rain and other effects are simply part of a test Rodriguez has crafted to show his actors the tone of the movie.
After Brolin’s hard-as-nails performance in this year’s 1940s cop thriller Gangster Squad, he is undoubtedly the ideal replacement for Clive Owen, who played Dwight in the 2005 original. Brolin is a strong actor who often understates his tough-guy persona and integrates elements of subtle humour into his performance to great effect.
Here are the different stories that will feature in the movie:
A Dame to Kill For
Dwight McCarthy (Josh Brolin) is called by his former lover, Ava Lord (Eva Green), who wants his help to escape her abusive husband, billionaire Damien Lord. However, Dwight soon learns that Ava’s true intentions are far more sinister than they appear.
Just Another Saturday Night
On the night John Hartigan meets back up with Nancy in “That Yellow Bastard”, Marv (Mickey Rourke) regains consciousness on a highway overlooking the Projects, surrounded by dead young men, unable to remember how he got there.
The Long Bad Night (Original Story)
Johnny (Joseph Gordon-Levitt), a cocky gambler, disguises a darker mission to destroy the biggest villain in Sin City at his own game. He beats the wrong guy and things take a very bad turn for him. Along the way, he meets a young stripper named Marcy (Julia Garner).
Untitled Original Story
Set after Hartigan’s (Bruce Willis) suicide at the end of “That Yellow Bastard”, this story will center around Nancy (Jessica Alba) trying to cope with his death.
