Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion lands at Disney

Oblivion movieTron Legacy director Joseph Kosinski teamed up with Radical Publishing last year to produce a sci-fi graphic novel called Oblivion. The story is set on a future Earth where civilization lives above the clouds and scavengers collect ancient artifacts from the polluted surface below. When one young scavenger finds a crashed spacecraft it leads him on a journey filled with romance and adventure.

Over the past week or so Kosinski has been shopping the movie, which he intends to direct, to studios such as Paramount and Universal, however Disney had an exclusive negotiating window and they used it to snap up the project.

Heat Vision who broke the news doesn’t give any further information on a time-frame, however the director is currently finishing up Tron Legacy for Disney so the ball may start rolling after December (unless Disney want Kosinski to jump straight into the sequel which they hired writers for in April).

The graphic novel won’t be released until November 16th, however AICN managed to get hold of the first chapter which you can read here.

I love how big sci-fi movies are back again (thanks Avatar). If Tron Legacy turns out as good as it looks then Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion will definitely be one to watch out for.
