Joseph Kosinski, director of the upcoming Tron: Legacy, is reportedly scheduled to direct sci-fi thriller Archangels under the production of the Scott brothers, and their production company Scott Free. THR’s Heat Vision blog describes the script as the following: “a “Bourne“-style thriller crossed with alien elements. The protagonist is part of an elite force that is tasked with tracking aliens who get past Earth’s defense system.”
More tidbits after the break.
The movie will be based on a script penned by Andrew Will, who broke into Hollywood via Homelanders, a 30-minute short film. The upcoming animated online shorts based on Dragon Age (the videogame) will also be directed and written by Will. I dunno about these new short animations, but Dragon Age: Origins was most definitely an awesome game.
It’s not much to go on, but Archangels is immediately an interesting project. The little information provided to us seems to suggest some sort of cross between District 9 and The X Files (and of course, Bourne), and that’s something I’d definitely like to see. I’m trying not to see too much of Tron: Legacy, having only watched the first teaser trailer released; but that alone was absolutely fantastic, and I’m ready to put faith in Kosinski. Archangels is now his third project lined up, along with a remake of Disney’s 1979 movie The Black Hole, and an adaptation of his own graphic novel, Oblivion (which has an awesome cover, and is due out in November).
The director will be present at Comic-Con next week, showing off Tron: Legacy and teasing Oblivion. The novel, that is. Anyway, it looks like we’re in for some more great sci-fi, and I say bring it on.
