Premium Rush didn’t find much of an audience a few months ago, but with The Dark Knight Rises, Looper, and Lincoln getting lots of attention for all the right reasons it appears Marvel wouldn’t mind Joseph Gordon-Levitt leading one of their films.
According to Deadline Marvel “has added Joseph Gordon-Levitt to the list of actors they are considering for Guardians of the Galaxy, which is to be directed by James Gunn.
The role in question is said to be that of Peter Quill, also known as Star-Lord (a human interplanetary policeman). Joel Edgerton (Zero Dark Thirty), Jack Huston (Boardwalk Empire), Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas), Lee Pace (The Hobbit), and Eddie Redmayne (Les Miserables) are also thought to be in the mix for the role, so it’ll be a case of narrowing the names down (and eventually casting someone) before filming begins later this year.
The Guardians of the Galaxy are “a team of superhuman and extra-terrestrial adventurers dedicated to the safeguarding of the Milky Way Galaxy from any force that threatens the security or liberty of its various people”.
The team includes Star-Lord (a human interplanetary policeman), Drax the Destroyer (a resurrected superhuman warrior and nemesis of Thanos), Groot (a plant monster who can control trees), Gamora (a dangerous female assassin who has a preference for knives and swords) and Rocket Racoon (a genetically altered racoon who can fly a plane and carries a laser pistol).
An August 2014 release date set, so expect a lot more from this movie over the upcoming months.
