The Defenders is now behind us and with it we also received the very first teaser for Marvel and Netflix’s next show, The Punisher, coming later this year.
We knew fairly early on that Jon Bernthal’s Punisher would not make it into The Defenders, at least not this year (he has to be in season 2, which has not yet been given the green light, although now it’s probably only a question of time). Well, while the character was not technically in the 8 episode series, he did make a very short appearance at the end of the final episode with a post-credits teaser for his upcoming solo show. We didn’t get a whole lot of footage, but the tone they’re going for is definitely there. So far I’m optimistic since they did the character justice in season 2 of Daredevil (and many would say he was the best part of that season). If they can keep this up for the 13 episode this show will have, then we’re in for a very dark “fun” time in a couple months.
Showrunner on season 1 of The Punisher is Steve Lightfoot and starring in the show are Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle and Deborah Ann Woll as Karen Page (who we’ve seen in both Daredevil season and The Defenders). The Punisher doesn’t have a release date yet, but everything points to a late November debut. Of course in typical Netflix fashion all 13 episodes will be available on the same day.
