It’s been seven years since Rowan Atkinson played the bumbling British spy in Johnny English, and now according to Variety he’s dusting himself off for another mission.
There has been talk of a sequel for years but now Universal and Working Title have finally got round to making one. The first film made over $160 million worldwide in 2003 on a $40 million budget so i’m not sure what took them so long. It only made $23 million in the US which could have been a factor, although the overseas box office is starting to become a lot more important to studios nowadays. Universal are also in need of a hit following recent under-performers such as Green Zone and Repo Men.
Variety say that filming is scheduled to begin in August with Dorin Grey and St. Trinian’s director Oliver Parker at the helm. The screenplay has been written by Hamish McColl who wrote Mr. Bean’s Holiday, so it should once again contain the comedy Rowan Atkinson is known for.
