John Carter DVD and Blu-ray release date set

John Carter and White Apes Image Walt Disney Studios has announced the John Carter DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray release date for June 5, 2012.

John Carter, which hit screens last month, has divided fans and critics. Some love the film, some don’t. But regardless of how good Disney’s effort was its legacy will be that it was a box office disappointment. John Carter has made over $200 million overseas, but only $68 million in the US, so while it has made its production budget back, it’s nowhere near profitability.

The DVD, Blu-ray, and 3D Blu-ray specifications haven’t been released yet, but it’ll update when the information becomes available.

John Carter is based on a classic novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, whose highly imaginative adventures served as inspiration for many filmmakers, both past and present. The film tells the story of war-weary, former military captain John Carter (Taylor Kitsch), who is inexplicably transported to Mars where he becomes reluctantly embroiled in a conflict of epic proportions amongst the inhabitants of the planet, including Tars Tarkas (Willem Dafoe) and the captivating Princess Dejah Thoris (Lynn Collins). In a world on the brink of collapse, Carter rediscovers his humanity when he realizes that the survival of Barsoom and its people rests in his hands.

This will make a fortune in Bluray sales. Can’t wait for June.

  • christina knight

I will buy it for sure

Though it was a disappointment in the theater, I enjoyed the movie, and will buy it on blue ray. Hopefully it will make up some of the money the movie lost in the theaters.

I will buy it rather than download the torrent.  I feel it was a great movie, and would like to get Disney some of their investment back.

i hate it when they word things like this,  they make it sound like “overseas” sales are inferior.  I mean money is money isn’t it.

they werent talking about inferiority.. read again and hence* the “but only” and “profitability”

Although John Carter was considered a flop, a lot of people
saw the movie, including me.  I thought
it was a decent movie, and they did the best they could while staying true to
the book.  I saw it on a business trip
for work, Dish.  I would like my wife to
see the movie though so I will be putting it in my queue with my Blockbuster
@Home service as soon as possible.  I
like renting Blu-ray exclusively since it is a better quality video than DVD
    and unlimited with Blockbuster @Home.

Why is it that every time I love something it doesn’t do well at the box office? I loved the books and the movie was great.

I don’t care what the reviewers say from the clips I’ve seen so far I will buy it and sooo enjoy watching it at the end of the day we all have different tastes, this is mine, I read the books in the 70′s and this is exactly as I imagined it would be, can’t wait to get hold of an official copy and be transported.
