According to Twitch, Jeremy Renner (The Hurt Locker) recently gave an interview at the Venice Film Festival and revealed that he and actress Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) will be starring in Tommy Wirkola’s Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters. Hit the jump for more details.
Wirkola is the Norwegian director responsible for the Nazi zombie horror comedy Dead Snow. He’s making his English-language debut with Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters, which finds the sibling pair as bounty hunters, fifteen years after their incident with the old witch at the gingerbread house.
I finally caught up with Dragon Tattoo just yesterday, and Rapace is certainly an impressive talent. Renner is quickly boosting his career after a star-making performance in The Hurt Locker, jumping onto the next Mission: Impossible as well as playing Hawkeye in Marvel’s upcoming Avengers film. It’ll be interesting to see their sibling chemistry in H&G: WH, and even more interesting to see where Wirkola goes with the tone of this movie.
Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions is behind this movie, so unless they’re branching into more dramatic territory, expect this one to be fairly tongue in cheek. Renner and Rapace in a witch hunting comedy? Color me intrigued.
