We may be hearing a lot about Jennifer Lawrence over the next few months as Winter’s Bone is currently riding a wave of awards buzz. The indie is one of the best reviewed movies of the year and could be a potential Oscar contender.
Lawrence attended a screening for Winter’s Bone in L.A recently, taking a breaking from filming X-Men: First Class in London, and she spoke more about what we can expect from Mystique in the prequel.
Only 10% of her screen time will be as Mystique, she said. It takes X-Men: First Class makeup artists about six hours to transform her into Mystique with the blue skins and the scales, she added. (She has a nickname for the process or the makeup or whatever — “Mystink.”) I asked if official photos have been taken, and she said the idea was to keep her appearance under wraps until just before the film’s release.
Earlier this year Lawrence said that she will be taking Mystique “back to the beginning” in X-Men: First Class, so we can expect to see the origins of Raven Darkholme. As the film takes place in the 60s when mutants are still in hiding, as it were, Raven could be taking human form to fit it, but eventually decides to adopt her blue and scaly appearance when she allies with Magneto and his views.
Another interesting bit of news regarding another character comes from HitFix who also spoke to the actress:
Lawrence discussed her co-star and new friend Zoe Kravitz. Lenny’s 21-year-old daughter is playing “Angel” according to Lawrence. Most comic book X-Men fans will know Kravitz isn’t playing Warren Worthington III, but Angel Salvadore, a more housefly-like incarnation. Lawrence says this Angel will have wings (whether they are fly-like or bird-like is unclear), but they’ll appear out of tattoos on her back.
That will be cool to see on-screen. Hopefully we get a teaser trailer before the end of the year, or possibly a few official stills.
X-Men: First Class is directed by Matthew Vaughn and will be released June 3rd 2011.
