Despite reports last month that Amber Heard was in talks to play Mystique in X-Men: First Class actress Jennifer Lawrence has won the role according to Heat Vision.
Lawrence is apparently generating awards buzz for thriller Winter’s Bone which has been making the festival rounds this year. First Class will be her first role in a major blockbuster, and playing a half-naked blue shapeshifter will no doubt raise her profile.
Rebecca Romijn played Mystique in the trilogy and I thought her character was one of the best things about X2. I wasn’t a fan of how Brett Ratner handled her humanizing in X-Men 3 (it was just an excuse to see Romijn naked), and I thought the Mystique/Magneto relationship deserved a lot more than what we got. Hopefully Vaughn gives Lawrence some cool scenes with Michael Fassbender who will be playing Magneto.
Here’s a video of Lawrence:
In other X-Men: First Class news Variety has confirmed that Kevin Bacon has officially signed up to play the villain, however who that villain is still remains under wraps.
Filming will begin next month in London so expect a few more casting confirmations over the upcoming weeks.
