javier bardem dark towerHow do you top off a week that includes being nominated for an Oscar, having your first child with Penelope Cruz, and being offered the lead role in Ron Howard’s The Dark Tower trilogy? You get an offer to star in the next Bond film, that’s how.

According to Deadline Javier Bardem has been offered a starring role alongside Daniel Craig in Bond 23. No details have been revealed as to whom he will play, but given this is the first major casting news it is likely to be the villain. Bardem played a villain in his Oscar-winning turn in No Country For Old Men two years ago so he’s no stranger to this type of role.

Earlier this week Judi Dench confirmed her return, and said she couldn’t wait to get working with Craig again and new director Sam Mendes (Road to Perdition, Jarhead). The script for Bond 23 has been written by Neal Purvis, Robert Wade and John Logan, and a release date of November 9, 2012 has been set.

If Javier Bardem accepts the offer to play the potential villian we should be hearing casting news on the next Bond girl soon, and maybe they’ll announce the official title.
