Matthew Vaughn described Jason Flemyng as his ‘lucky charm’ and if he were still on-board to direct X-Men: Days of Future Past I’m sure he would have found a place for Flemyng’s Azazel, but it looks like Bryan Singer has decided not to include the character in his film.
Jason Flemyng told Independent.IE that he doesn’t think he’ll be back as the red-skinned teleporter:
“I don’t think I will be back. Initially I was gutted, but then, I remembered I had to get up at two in the morning, I had to be painted red and be slightly out of focus and posed a lot, and that was sort of it. Now I don’t have to do that,” he said.
“I’ve had twins so I’m quite glad to stay at home. It’s filmed in Canada and it takes about seven months so I’m quite glad to be at home.”
“I am gutted because Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, McAvoy and that lot are back so I think they will have a good time,” he added.
So far the only cast returning from X-Men: First Class are Lawrence, Hoult, McAvoy and Michael Fassbender. The original cast currently outnumber them, with Hugh Jackman, Halle Berry, Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, Shawn Ashmore, Ellen Page and Anna Paquin all set. I think there will probably be more First Class members announced soon, but as Days of Future Past takes place 10 years after the prequel it leaves room to drop some characters fans didn’t have much investment in (like Azazel, despite him being quite cool).
X-Men: Days of Future Past will begin filming next month for a July 2014 release.
