Jared Harris (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) has joined the cast of Pompeii 3D, according to Deadline. Harris will join Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) and Kit Harington (TV’s Game of Thrones) in the adventure, which will be directed by Paul W.S. Anderson (Resident Evil).
Harris will play the wealthy merchant, Lucretius, whose daughter Flavia (Browing) is endangered when Mount Vesuvius erupts. Kit Harington will play the slave turned gladiator, Milo, who battles against adversity as he races to save Flavia.
Here’s the scoop:
Sherlock Holmes star Jared Harris has joined Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) and Kit Harington (Game Of Thrones) in Paul W.S. Anderson‘s period 3D action-adventure.
The project, produced by Constantin Film and Impact Pictures, has been kicking around for a while now. Anderson was set to start shooting last spring when Summit was shopping the title to foreign buyers at Cannes, but filming was pushed to this year and is underway now in Pompeii, Italy, moving to Toronto at the end of March. The Resident Evil/Three Musketeers helmer is directing from a script by Janet Scott Batchler & Lee Batchler, Michael Robert Johnson, and Julian Fellowes (Downton Abbey). Roman Polanski years ago tried his hand at a competing Pompeii project adapted from Robert Harris’ novel before he bailed.
Jared Harris will next be seen in The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones in August alongside Lena Heady (TV’s Game of Thrones), Aidan Turner (The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey) and Jonathan Rhys-Meyers (TV’s The Tudors).
