With Avatar making $2.7 billion worldwide the man responsible, James Cameron, was bound to get a huge payday from it all. Cameron made around $100 million from Titanic and the film’s success allowed him to negotiate a significant gross percentage with 20th Century Fox when he came round to make Avatar.
So what will Cameron receive for creating Pandora? $350 million according to Deadline, which is partly because the DVD and Blu-ray broke records and sold beyond expectations.
This sum is the largest ever paid to a director for a single movie, confirming Cameron’s ‘King of the World’ status, and he will no doubt earn more with Avatar being re-released on Digital 3D and IMAX 3D on August 27th with over 8 minutes of never before seen footage.
I can’t being to imagine what he will do with it all and it’s none of my business, but one thing he could potentially do is use the money to make Avatar 2 himself. I doubt he will do as 20th Century Fox will want in on the action again, but he could. I suppose if he wanted to go a little wild he could build his own full-sized Hometree in his back yard, although it may be a health and safety hazard.
