Jack the Giant Killer is now a Slayer with a new release date

Jack the Giant Killer is now Jack the Giant Slayer, not much of a change on the part of Warner Bros. but I can see how having “killer” in the name of what is supposed to be a family film could turn off a few people. So yeah, they changed a word and announced a new (and hopefully final) release date for this much delayed flick, March 1st 2013.

This new reinterpretation of the classic Jack and the Beanstalk borrows most of the story from the original tale: Jack finds magic beans, plans beans, gigantic beanstalk springs out, Jack climbs gigantic beanstalk, Jack finds giant world up there, Jack kills giant (spoilers in the title).

X-Men and Superman Returns director Bryan Singer helmed this 3D adventure, at one point slated for a June 2012 release, so I’m confident it should at the very least be an entertaining flick. We also have Nicholas Hoult (X-Men: First Class) playing Jack while the rest of the cast includes: Ewan McGregor, Stanley Tucci, Ian McShane, Bill Nighy, Warwick Davis and Eleanor Tomlinson among others, good bunch I say.

As mentioned in the intro, Jack The Giant Slayer will be out March 1st 2013 in North America (no news on how that will impact the rest of the dates around the world), just a week ahead of another big budget adventure based on a classic story, Oz: The Great and Powerful. Should be a mighty interesting week that one.

So what are your thoughts on the name-change, release date. and the movie?
