frankenstein 1 Following developments on Dracula: Year Zero, Patrick Tatapoulos (director of the third Underworld movie), has been signed on to direct I, Frankenstein.

Kevin Grevioux, who wrote the first Underworld, penned the script, and according to JoBlo’s original report:

…the story will follow a heroic Frankenstein who is humanity’s only hope against an “uprising of supernatural creatures”…

Sounds like it’s gonna be more of an action romp than anything else, particularly with the director they have at the moment. The new Dracula will probably be along the same lines. I’d rather see more serious takes on these classic characters, than Underworld-like ones, but for now I’ll just pray that unlike I, Robot and I Am Legend, they don’t cast Will Smith in I, Frankenstein. As Frankenstein. Or as the monster. Or…anyone really. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t hate him – but not in a Frankenstein, please.

Personally I find it easier to get more excited about a Frankenstein film from Guillermo del Toro. But that’s because the man’s a visual genius.
