Hugh Jackman has promised fans that upcoming comic book sequel The Wolverine will be a definitive portrayal of the iconic character. He even goes as far as acknowledging that previous incarnations have not fully realised the character’s wealth of potential.
Speaking to Empire
“I still don’t think we’ve seen the definitive Wolverine. And the longer I play the character, the more the desire to get him right grows. The more I speak to fans and explore his world, the more it means to me. I understand the character and the legacy and I don’t feel, up to this movie, that we’ve completely lived up to that. So that’s what I intend to do.”
It seems as though Hugh Jackman and everyone involved with the movie are determined to deliver a great sequel. So far, the signs are good and with all the hype surrounding Bryan Singer’s X-Men: Days of Future Past, this film has to deliver.
The brand-new promotional image from The Wolverine is of particular interest as it depicts a more streamlined approach to the character. Logan is very smartly dressed in an all-black suit, which suggests that the character has become more disciplined.
However, it is all likely be a superficial front as black is often a colour associated with disguises, or even a metaphor for someone in hiding, both of which are true to the character. The very fact that his claws are extended symbolises his violent tendencies and accompanied by his penetrating facial expression, it is clear that Wolverine’s berserker rage remains a dominant character trait.
The Wolverine is scheduled for release in the UK and US on 26th July 2013.
