Hugh Jackman is currently filming X-Men Origins: Wolverine in Australia, and it seems he is also busy thinking about what to do when the claws are eventually retracted. Last week we heard of Jackman teaming with Doomsday director Neil Marshall on Drive, which evolves around a Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman during robberies and discovers that a contract has been put on him.
Not only that, today we heard that Jackman is teaming with Virgin Comics to create Nowhere Man, an original comic book series that is designed to be transferred to the big screen with Jackman as the lead. The plot is being kept quiet, but Jackson’s Seed Productions partner John Palermo said it features a protagonist reminiscent of the one Will Smith played in I Am Legend. The concept is a futuristic world where mankind has traded privacy for safety.
“This is our first comic, and we feel the concept is transferable to other arenas, perhaps first as a video game, and then a movie,” Palermo said.
Said Jackman: “I’ve had so much fun in the graphic novel world with the ‘X-Men’ franchise that I wanted to get even more involved. I’m excited to work with Virgin and Marc and create a compelling character and story that hopefully will also make it to the big screen.”
This certainly sounds interesting. It is also interesting that the creators of comic books now plan ahead, with the hope of their comics becoming movies that will bring in more $$$.
