While on the rounds for Australia Hugh Jackman was asked his thoughts on the recent news that Fox were developing another X-Men movie, X-Men: First Class. From looking at what we know it doesn’t look like Wolverine will feature (thank the heavens), however Jackman and his production company produced X-Men 3 and upcoming X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so would he be involved in some way with the new film?
“No, there’s no plans. I read about it about like you in the newspapers. You know I’d heard about some kind of movie and for me being a little greedy I said to the guys at Fox ‘I really want Wolverine to be the first one, whatever else you do, can we please make Wolverine the first one’, so I’m happy we’re the first one out. But I think there’s always room for good movies and I can see with the comic book history and the folklore around X-Men there’s definably a good movie in there. I won’t be making it but I can see it. I’ll look forward to seeing it and seeing what they do with it”
In other First Class news, Variety ran an interesting article looking at the future of the X-Men franchise. Apparently the X-Men rights would revert back to Marvel in 2012 if Fox weren’t putting them into good use, so it looks like Fox are hoping to turn X-Men: First Class into a trilogy, along with possible Wolverine sequels if the first is a success next May. There’s also X-Men Origins: Magneto in the works and a possible Deadpool spin-off. Marvel won’t be getting them rights back anytime soon!
