This is one of those stories that just makes me shake my head. Paramount Pictures has decided to go ahead with a movie called Huck and Tom, which will see Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as adults and will explore the story in the vein of Snow White and the Huntsman. The Hollywood Reporter says there are “supernatural elements” as well. I’ll admit that the last Snow White trailer was kind of cool, but there’s no reason why Twain’s literary characters should be crapped on with buzzwords like this.
Huck and Tom (no relation to the 90s Disney movie Tom and Huck, starring Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Brad Renfro) was written by Andy Burg, who last wrote Trojan War back in 1997, which starred “Boy Meets World” actor Will Friedle and Jennifer Love Hewitt. Peter Chernin and Dylan Clark will produce this film, and aside from some big name TV shows, they’re also producing Joseph Kosinski’s Oblivion with Tom Cruise. God help whoever gets cast in this movie, because they’ll be fighting an uphill battle with this one. We can only hope this is one of those movies that gets announced but ultimately never ends up seeing the light of day. Am I wrong about this? Does anybody want to see an edgy, gritty, Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn movie?
