I adore The Hobbit; it's easily my favorite book. But... one of the things that so endears me to it is its charm and simplicity. It's not a dark or serious story; even dark events are told in a relatively lighthearted tone. In other words, it's got a very, very different feel to it than the Lord of the Rings trilogy... I'm afraid if they try to match the mood of the movie to the mood of the trilogy's movies, it'll just lose its appeal. Not to mention over-complicating the story... sigh. Oh well.
