Among other things Disney showed some footage from Star Wars: The Last Jedi at their biennial fan convention D23, which took place this weekend in Anaheim, California.
This was very much like the previous behind the scenes look we got at D23 2015 for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It’s probably no coincidence the mainline Star Wars movies drop the year D23 takes place. Now as cool as all the footage was, it does feel bittersweet seeing so much of Carrie Fisher and knowing this will be the last time we’ll ever see her on screen in a Star Wars movie. That is unless of course they plan to use some of the footage they shot for The Last Jedi in Episode 9 (which they very well might as Leia’s arc won’t end in this episode). As far as when we’ll see more from of The Last Jedi, I’m guessing the 2nd official trailer will come before the end of the summer.
Rian Johnson (Looper) wrote and directed Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Starring in the film are Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Gwendoline Christie, Domhnall Gleeson, Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro, Lupita Nyong’o, Warwick Davies, Peter Mayhew, Billie Lourd, Anthony Daniels and the late Carrie Fisher.
Star Wars: The Last Jedi opens December 15th in the US and the rest of the world (with the exception of China, which drops January 5th 2018).
