2036: Nexus Dawn is a short film that goes over certain events that happened between Blade Runner (set in 2019) and its upcoming 2049 sequel.
In 30 years a lot has happened in the world of Blade Runner. To help fill in some of those gaps ahead of the new film’s release we’ll be getting three short films about three important events with strong ramifications in the sequel’s 2049 future. The first of these (which premiered on Collider), titled 2036: Nexus Dawn, was directed by Luke Scott (Ridley Scott’s son) and stars Jared Leto and Benedict Wong. To give you a bit more context on what you’re about to see, you should know that in 2023, four years after the first film’s events, the government introduced a ban on replicant production because of a major incident. In 2036 Niander Wallace (the character played by Jared Leto) wants the ban to be lifted.
Blade Runner 2049 was directed by Denis Villeneuve and written by Hampton Fancher and Michael Green. Starring in the sci-fi thriller are Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Ana de Armas, Dave Bautista, Mackenzie Davis and more.
Blade Runner 2049 opens October 6th in the US and around the world. And like I said above, we’ll be getting two more short films like this one before that release date, so watch out for those too.
