Who says 71 is too old to be an action star? Certainly not Harrison Ford. We’ve just learned a couple pieces of information about the iconic star and his relationship with two well-known action franchises. The man behind The Expendables franchise, Sylvester Stallone, tweeted that Ford is in and Bruce Willis is out. Ford also spoke to The Telegraph saying it would be “perfectly appropriate” for him to grab the hat and the whip and play Indiana Jones once again.
The Expendables franchise has become a haven for action stars from the past and Ford will be joining the likes of; Stallone, Wesley Snipes, Mickey Rourke, Jackie Chan, Milla Jovovich, and Mel Gibson. If I had to guess I’d say that Expendables 3 will feature a number of references to Fords past roles such as Indy and Han Solo, much like Chick Norris making Chuck Norris jokes and Bruce Willis and Arnold Schwarzenegger swapping catchphrases in Expendables 2.
As for a fifth entry in the Indiana Jones franchise there really isn’t anything to go on more than rumors, but Ford really seems to love playing Jones, something that can’t also be said about how he fees about Han Solo. If another Indiana Jones film ever does happen it’s comforting to know that Ford will still be in the leading role and we won’t see Shia LaBeouf take over or some reboot with another actor, either of which would certainly be hated by fans more than even the reviled fourth film.
