At the 2009 BET Awards Jamie Foxx and Martin Lawrence appeared in a spoof movie trailer called The Skank Robbers as Sheneneh and Wanda (90s characters that originally appeared on TV shows Martin and In Living Color, respectively). The reaction caused Sony to purchase the rights to a movie, and they penciled in an August 2011 release.
In a recent interview Foxx confirmed that filming will begin early next year, and that Halle Berry has joined the cast.
We’re working on a movie together at the beginning the year next year. Myself, Martin Lawrence and Halle [called ‘The Skank Robbers’]. It’s a Sheneneh and Wanda movie, the characters we played in ‘In Living Color.’ We rob banks from Northern California to Southern California.
Foxx also revealed that Robert Downey Jr. will be appearing in one of his upcoming music videos. He’ll probably have to fit that in around Sherlock Holmes 2 filming.
As for The Skank Robbers, you can watch the spoof trailer below:
It’ll be interesting to see Halle Berry in a comedy role with Foxx and Lawrence. Berry has been off our screens for nearly 3 years (which is far too long in my opinion) after having a child. She has an indie movie called Frankie and Alice getting a limited release sometime in October/November and shark thriller Dark Tide out next year. Berry is also attached to Cloud Atlas with Tom Hanks and Natalie Portman, so she is making up for all those years she spent away.
