Halle Berry going bald for next film

halle berryLast night I watched V for Vendetta and one of the most memorable things about it was the fact that Natalie Portman had no hair for half of the movie. The actual hair removing process was on screen for less than 5 seconds, however it was significant nonetheless. Now Halle Berry is getting in on the act. For her next movie, Nappily Ever After, she is going to have her lovely locks sheered off like a sheep.

From Essence:

On going bald for a role:
“I am shaving it off,” she says. “I know. Here comes the controversy, but I have to do it for the role and it will grow back – I hope.”

Where as Natalie Portman’s character had her hair removed whilst being interrogated and tortured, Halle Berry’s character will be doing it willingly to find some ‘inner beauty’ type stuff.

Speaking of beauty, in Halle’s next film she plays a hooker and goes topless, just like she did in Swordfish.

[Note: I actually did watch V for Vendetta last night and didn't make it up purely because it fitted nicely with this news. I have Twitter proof!]

    I can't wait to see this movie. Because as a woman especially as a black woman our sense of beauty and self is in our hair. Most people outside of the black race don't know that about us. Its something that is kept secret and no one talks about outside the hair salon.

    ARE WE TYPE CASTING HALLE BERRY TO MUCH May 22 2010

    Halle Berry,
    I certainly would like to see Halle Berry play an Egyptian queen of very old Egypt. Perhaps such productions are expensive, and so producers stay away from them, but when you consider the wonderful HBO production of the Tudors, all four seasons, seeing Halle Berry in a HBO Series of a rizing star ancient female aristocrat ascending a ancient Egyptian Throne meant only for men is not such a bad drama. In particular when consider the liberality of ancient Egyptian culture – it would slightly go beyone mere political intrigues, it would be a voice of ancient times even beyond the establishment of Ancient Greek culture.

    I like the existing roles Halle Berry has done, I think shes a fantastic actress, beauty and brains in one package – in my opinion you’ve got to be smart to be an actor of any kind. But I’m a little skeptical of movie producers type casting Halle Berry in semi-hooker and hooker movies. I wonder if Halle Berry might not be noticing this consistent trend toward type casting her acting abilities. I mean John Wayne made a good living being typed casted, but when he could get semi-real-role that demanded his acting ability, John Wayne was really good.
