clash of the titans gemma arterton This year Gemma Arterton starred in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time and Clash of the Titans, both of which were high profile movies with franchise potential that could keep the actress busy for the next few years.

It doesn’t look like we will be seeing a sequel for Prince of Persia, although Warner Bros. are moving forward with Clash of the Titans 2 and Arterton has revealed that she will be returning.

From MTV:

“I think I am doing the second ‘Clash,’ ” the 24-year-old actress told us while promoting “The Disappearance of Alice Creed.” “I don’t know anything about it yet though. It’s one of those things.”

Arterton went on to give the standard line about how actors that sign on to franchises are optioned for further installments, but in previous interviews, she has indicated that no such deal was in place. In any case, now we know: Arterton will return as Worthington’s love interest Io. What’s more, she’s hoping her character gets to kick a little more ass in the sequel.

“I think she needs to be less mythical and more real and go for the fighting,” she said. “It’s fun, as well, doing all that stuff.”

Clash of the Titans entertained me but it could have been a lot better than what it was. Hopefully with a completely new creative team involved the sequel can improve upon where it failed. Dan Mazeau (worked on The Flash script for Warner Bros.) and David Johnson (Red Riding Hood) will work alongside Green Lantern writer Greg Berlanti on the script, and Warner Bros. are currently looking at a number of directors ready for filming next year.
