Easy A was one of the best high school comedies of recent years, and now writer Bert Royal has another script in development. It’s called The Wright Girls, and Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time star Gemma Arterton is attached to star. Based on a Japanese film called 2LDK, The Wright Girls follows “two young actresses who live together, pretend to be best friends and are co-stars on a successful television show. In reality, they detest each other and go to extreme and violent lengths to do one another in when they end up competing for the same movie role.” More below.
Sounds like this movie has a bit of a brutal streak to it, and it’s being described by The Hollywood Reporter (who provided the synopsis above) as a dark comedy-thriller. Interesting. Apparently Megan Fox was once attached to star, but she’s no longer involved with the movie.
Sadly, though, I can tell you the name of someone who actually is involved – and that’s Andy Fickman, who’s currently negotiating for the director’s chair. Fickman has directed movies like She’s The Man, The Game Plan, Race to Witch Mountain, and You Again, which doesn’t exactly thrill me when I think about the prospects for The Wright Girls. I’m really holding out hope that the “dark comedy-thriller” descriptor is accurate and this doesn’t become just another drop in the bucket of throwaway romantic comedy nonsense.
