Gary Oldman (The Dark Knight Rises, Lawless) has signed up to star in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to 2011’s hugely successful Rise of the Planet of the Apes. Oldman will play Dreyfus, who becomes the leader of the human resistance when the apes take over.

Gary Oldman is joining Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes, the Matt Reeves-directed sequel to Fox‘s successful ape reboot Rise Of The Planet Of The Apes. Zero Dark Thirty‘s Jason Clarke and Kodi-Smit McPhee have already been set. I’m told that Oldman will play Dreyfus, leader of the human resistance after the apes have taken power.
The Rupert Wyatt directed reboot starred James Franco (Spiderman Trilogy, Pineapple Express) and achieved both critical and commercial acclaim, grossing $481 million worldwide.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is scheduled for release in the US and UK on 23rd May 2014. It is directed by Matt Reeves (Cloverfield) and sees Andy Serkis (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, King Kong) reprise his role as the highly intelligent ape, Caesar, as he struggles to maintain his dominance over the other intelligent apes.
Gary Oldman is currently filming the long-awaited Robocop reboot for MGM, which is schedule for release in the US and UK on 7th February 2014.
