Game of Thrones fans are in a bit of a dry period at the moment with Game of Thrones Season 3 ending in June and not being available on DVD or Blu-ray until February. We have been getting information on the fourth season over recent months as filming started in July in Iceland, Northern Ireland and Croatia. Most notable are that Neil Marshall, who directed the ‘Blackwater’ episode from Season 2, will be returning to direct the penultimate episode in Season 4. There have also been some interesting casting additions such as Pedro Pascal as Oberyn Martell (aka the Red Viper) and Roger Ashton-Griffiths as Mace Tyrell the Lord of Highgarden.
Game of Thrones Season 4 release date?
HBO has not announced the official Game of Thrones Season 4 release date, only hinting at early 2014, but based on past air dates we can assume Season 4 will be opening in March 2014.

By releasing Season 3 on DVD/Blu-ray less than a month before the Game of Thrones Season 4 release date HBO will be repeating a strategy which has worked well for them over the past few years. The buzz generated should hopefully give Season 4 one of the biggest premiere ratings to date. The plot for Season 4 will be largely based on the second half of the A Storm of Swords novel, but we can also expect some elements from the fourth and fifth books to be included. All the main characters who survived Season 3 are likely to return,
